How to Play Would You Rather

Would you rather is the easiest game to teach a kid: two choices, pick one, say why.

  1. A grown-up or an older kid reads the question out loud.
  2. Everyone picks one answer. No "both" and no "neither."
  3. Each player says why. For little kids, one word or pointing counts.
  4. Take turns reading, so every kid gets to be the one asking.

Three ways to change it up

  • Act it out. Kids act out their pick instead of saying it: waddle for the penguin, hop for the kangaroo. Everyone else guesses.
  • Draw it. At home or in class, each kid draws their answer. Pin the drawings up and let the others guess which question it was.
  • Pick a side. For teachers: read a question and have students walk to one side of the room or the other. Ask two kids from each side to explain.
